B Vitamins and Energy: The Cases Where B6, B12 and Folate Help
Your body relies on B vitamins to convert food into energy and to build red blood cells, yet none of them acts as a stimulant. When B12 or folate runs low, putting that right can ease fatigue. When your levels are already normal, taking more B vitamins probably won’t raise your energy. A 2-gummy serving of JellyRock supplies 1.4 mg of B6, 2 mcg of B12 and 1,000 mcg DFE of folate.

What “energy boosting nutrients” refers to
One JellyRock listing image carries the words “energy boosting nutrients.” Turn to the label and that phrase points to three B vitamins, namely folate, B6 and B12. There is a reason men’s supplements, energy shots and energy drinks nearly all include them: they play a real part in how your body produces energy.
Still, being “involved in energy” is a different matter from “giving you energy.” The sections below lay out that difference, so you can judge what a B-vitamin gummy is likely to do.
The jobs B vitamins do inside your body
Food supplies your energy in the form of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Converting these into fuel your body can use involves a long chain of chemical steps, and B vitamins act as helpers in many of them.
| Vitamin | Main jobs | Adult need (RDA) |
|---|---|---|
| B6 | Processing protein, building neurotransmitters, forming red blood cells | 1.3 mg; 1.7 mg for men over 50 |
| B12 | DNA, healthy nerves, red blood cells | 2.4 mcg |
| Folate | Red blood cells and DNA; partners with B12 | 400 mcg DFE |
Picture B vitamins as the spark plugs in an engine. Worn plugs make the engine run poorly, and fresh ones set it right. Fitting more plugs into an engine that already runs well, though, won’t add speed (NIH Office of Dietary Supplements, “Vitamin B6: Fact Sheet for Health Professionals”).
Who tends to run low
Food gives most adults in America enough B6 and folate, helped by the folic acid added to U.S. flour and cereals. Shortfalls turn up more often with vitamin B12 (NIH Office of Dietary Supplements, “Vitamin B12: Fact Sheet for Health Professionals”).
People past 50
Lower stomach acid cuts how much B12 they absorb from food.
Vegans and certain vegetarians
Nearly all B12 comes from foods of animal origin.
Years on metformin or acid reducers
Both can reduce how much B12 is absorbed.
Digestive conditions or surgery
Weight-loss surgery, celiac disease and Crohn’s all affect absorption.
Signs of low B12 include fatigue, weakness, pale skin and breathlessness, followed later by tingling or numbness in the hands and feet. A simple blood test can check for it.
Putting JellyRock’s amounts in perspective
JellyRock’s label gives 1.4 mg of vitamin B6, 2 mcg of vitamin B12 and 1,000 mcg DFE of folate (600 mcg as folic acid) in each 2-gummy serving. Measured against today’s Daily Values, those come to roughly 82%, 83% and 250%, while the jar shows 88%, 100% and 100%.
- Vitamin B61.4 mg88%differs
- Vitamin B122 mcg100%differs
- Folate1,000 mcg DFE100%differs
- Iodine100 mcg67%agrees
The “Worked out” view is based on today’s FDA Daily Values (U.S. Food and Drug Administration, “Daily Value on the Nutrition and Supplement Facts Labels”): 1.7 mg for B6, 2.4 mcg for B12, 400 mcg DFE for folate and 150 mcg for iodine.
That puts B6 and B12 at about one day’s supply, much like a simple multivitamin, and folate at two and a half days’ supply. If diet is the reason someone’s B12 is low, 2 mcg daily is useful; if poor absorption is the reason, clinicians often turn to far bigger doses or to injections.
Will you notice more energy?
| Your situation | What a B-vitamin gummy will likely do |
|---|---|
| B vitamin levels already normal | Likely nothing you would notice |
| Slightly low because of diet | Could help, slowly, over weeks |
| Low B12 due to poor absorption | Might fall short; get a medical check |
| Tired after too little sleep | Does nothing for the cause |
| Tired because of anemia, low thyroid or sleep apnea | Does nothing for the cause |
B vitamins often come paired with caffeine in energy drinks, and it is the caffeine you notice. With no caffeine in JellyRock, any effect would build gradually and quietly rather than as a jolt.
A caveat on folic acid and B12
B12 and folic acid act as a team, and running short of either one can lead to a form of anemia marked by oversized red blood cells. The caveat: large amounts of folic acid can clear up that anemia even when low B12 is the true cause, while the nerve damage from the B12 shortfall continues (NIH Office of Dietary Supplements, “Folate: Fact Sheet for Health Professionals”).
It helps explain why supplemental folic acid has an upper limit of 1,000 mcg a day. JellyRock provides 600 mcg, an amount that is fine for most people. Still, if you are vegan, past 50 or taking metformin, have your healthcare provider test your B12 instead of counting on a gummy.

Check today’s priceThe role of iodine
The JellyRock label includes 100 mcg of iodine as well. Iodine is what your thyroid needs to make its hormones, and those hormones set the pace of your body. Running short of iodine can result in an under-active thyroid, bringing fatigue, weight gain and a sense of being cold (NIH Office of Dietary Supplements, “Iodine: Fact Sheet for Health Professionals”).
Most Americans already get enough iodine from seafood, eggs, dairy and iodized salt. Excess iodine can disturb the thyroid too, so anyone with a thyroid condition or taking thyroid medicine should check with a healthcare provider before adding more.
Where to find B6, B12 and folate in food
| Vitamin | Good food sources |
|---|---|
| B6 | Fortified cereals, chicken, salmon, tuna, chickpeas, bananas, potatoes |
| B12 | Beef liver, clams, meat, fish, dairy, eggs, plus fortified cereals and nutritional yeast |
| Folate | Beans, peas, leafy greens, oranges, asparagus, plus bread, pasta and rice enriched with folic acid |
Eating a mix of foods, some of them from animals, generally supplies all three. If your diet has no animal foods whatsoever, plan ahead for B12 with fortified foods or a supplement, since plants are not a dependable source of it.
Better first steps for low energy
Start with sleep
Target 7–9 hours on a steady schedule, and get loud snoring looked at.
Move every day
Walks and strength work lift energy over the weeks.
Keep meals regular
Most B vitamins come from protein, whole grains, fruit and vegetables.
Tired for weeks? Ask for tests
Ask for checks of iron, B12, blood sugar, thyroid and vitamin D.
After that, weigh a supplement
Think of a B-vitamin gummy as a sensible top-up rather than a fix.
The short version
B6, B12 and folate genuinely belong to the “energy metabolism” group of vitamins, and JellyRock holds useful amounts of each. They make a difference when your levels are low, and add no energy when they are not. Folate comes in above what the jar implies, at 250% of the Daily Value.
Feeling tired on most days is a reason to be checked for the usual causes. When those results come back normal, improved sleep and moving each day will help more than a vitamin gummy can.
